Looking for inexpensive backing tracks?

If you're looking for a backing, you can buy a premade track or have a custom made one created specifically for your recording.  Backings come either as MIDI files, MP3 or as a CD.

CD and MP3 backings

If you don't need to change the key* of your cover song, then purchasing a CD or MP3 is the way to go. These tracks are often nearly identical to the original recording without the lead vocals.

Sites such as www.ameritz.co.uk and www.hittrax.com.au sell MP3 backings. Hittrax also sell MIDI files.

www.apple.com/au/itunes have some backing tracks. You need to download the itunes software. When you search for a song, include the term 'karaoke' or 'instrumental' in your search. At $1.69 per song, these are probably the cheapest backings that you'll find.

MIDI files

MIDI files are not sound, but a set of instructions that play a synthesizer. The sounds you hear when you play a MIDI file on your computer are actually being produced by a synthesizer in your soundcard. If you burn a MIDI file to CD it will not play in a CD player, unless you know how to render the sound from your soundcard into an audio file first.

The advantage of a MIDI file is the tempo, key, arrangement and sounds can be altered to suit your needs. I can help you convert a MIDI file into a custom crafted  track suited to your needs. Call  me before purchasing a MIDI file and I'll assist you to buy the most suitable track.

Choosing the Key

Choosing the right key for you is crucial to making a professional sounding recording. Recording notes that are just too high or too low for your comfortable vocal range will diminish the impact of your recording. Here's three solutions.

1. Change the key of the whole song so that no part of it is out of range
2. Modify one or two lines so that you avoid the parts that are causing problems
3. Work with a vocal coach to develop your range.

Experienced recording artists will always look for ways to get the meaning and emotion of the song across without demonstrating vocal weaknesses.

If you are recording an original song, or if you want to create an original version of a cover, we can make a track in the style you need.
