How long does it take to make a recording?
The 1st song takes the longest, and then the 2nd or 3rd song will normally be a little less. If you've never recorded in a studio before, allow 1 to 2 hours to record one song. This allows plenty of time to listen and rerecord until you have the very best that you can achieve. It may sound like a lot of time, but to take home one great recording is so much more rewarding than a few songs that you wished you'd done better. 3 hours is enough to record and mix two or even three songs at a high standard.
Vocals with Guitar or piano
Guitar and vocals can record at the same time and so it shouldn't take any longer than recording vocals. Often a better result can be achieved by recording guitar and vocals separately, so that only the very best performance of each is used.
Backing tracks
Go to the Backing Tracks page to learn all about MIDI backings, live accompanying and pre-made MP3 backings.
Bands
Jazz bands often prefer to record with everyone playing together, as a 'live' set. Almost all other bands will want to multi-track the parts. That is, record the drums, bass and guitar together and then add other parts individually or in sections. We have complete flexibility in how we go about making a recording and so the best way is always the way that gets the best results.
Band Demo
After the initial set-up and sound check allow 3 to 4 hours to record 3 songs. Always allow about as much time to mix as it took to make the recording. A demo recording should show the skills of the band and should accurately reflect how the band will sound at a livegig. A very good sound can be achieved in a fairly short time.
CD for Sale or Release
It's hard to put figures on this, however, it takes time make a recording that stands up against it's commercial rivals. Many of the great CDs take months to record and an equal amount of time to mix. You might be surprised that an album can be made quickly, howeverexpect to spend a lot more time than your last demo. Every CD will be different. Come over, obligation free, meeting to discuss your project.
Orchestras and Choirs
Orchestras, choirs and chamber ensembles can be recorded on location. Chamber groups and vocal ensembles can aslo be recorded in the studio. Call to discuss your needs.
